Why Community?
God's highest work on the earth during these End Times is the creation of a people for his Name (his presence, truth, power and authority).
Whereas sin alienates, confuses, creates smoldering hostilities and destroys healthy community (Gen. 3-11), God declares that through Jesus, he is building New Community. After being saved by a holy loving God, those who heretofore could not touch each other horizontally, embrace one another "in the Spirit." (See Eph. 1-4)
'By one Spirit we were all baptized into one body." (I Cor. 12:13).
"Upon this rock I will build my church [my new community of disciples--learners--
A new commandment I give to you that you love one another as I have loved you and by this all men will know you are my disciples." (John 13:34)
God does not save anyone in isolated units. Those he calls, he cleans, fills and places in community with other called, cleaned and filled believers. God's community in gospel mission--loving, serving, worshiping, announcing Good News and edifying--testifies to God's life on the earth.
God's mission is done by communities of believers--using their collective spiritual gifts--living as God's proclaiming, alternative parallel society. People come to Christ through the Spirit's work through Gospel proclamation, sharing and service. Saving faith, a work of the Spirit is "taught" and "caught."
The Lake Highlands Church is a SPIRITUAL ARMY--at war. Like all real armies, we have a hospital. We are not just a hospital for victims of religious abuse. We are a SPIRITUAL ARMY doing battle with the principalities and powers--reclaiming people's lives and all of this earth for the KINGDOM!
